The Ford versus Chevy versus Dodge pickup truck battle will never cease as long as these three automotive industry kingpins exist.
If you were looking to purchase a pickup truck, which one would you go for among the three? Which is one better?
Here is a brief overview of each of the brands
The Ford Brand
It is derived from the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Corporation started truck production back in 1946.
Ford truck models do not have a singular notable feature or shape mainly because the corporation is founded on being unique and original. In 2015, Ford’s release of the F-150 featuring an aluminum body placed it at the top at truck lightweightness.
The Chevy Brand
It’s a subset of General Motors, which is the biggest automotive brand in America. Founded as early as 1911, Chevrolet had to compete with Ford, developing a long competition history.
Having being headed by a former designer of race cars, Chevrolet is mainly defined by speed and comfort. While Ford’s main focus was the middle-class market, Chevrolet’s primary market was the upper-class by adding more comfort features to their trucks.
The Dodge Brand
Started in 1981, Dodge is newer compared to Ford, which makes its understandable why Dodge Ram would concentrate less on innovation in design.
Ram did not need to develop a new kind of pickup truck but to simply improve designs with better and improved performance.
This became the main concern for Dodge Ram, to develop technology to improve their truck’s performance. These kinds of technology made for a pickup truck that’s stronger and drives faster than its competitors.

More Comparison of Ford, Chevy, or Dodge?
Below is a comparison of the three based on five features; interior, weight, engine and beyond, ride quality, safety, and comfort.
We will be comparing Ford’s 2015 F-150 model, Ram 1500 model, and Chevy’s 2020 Silverado.
One of Ford’s most impressive feature is that its interiors remain as good as new even after several years of use. Also keep in mind that Ford trucks are known for their cool interiors. One of the incredible features of Ford’s interior is the Ford Sync technology.
This is the brand’s Bluetooth wireless technology that synchronizes the commands between your smartphone and the truck. Other great feature include the high-quality massaging front seat, user-friendly controls, and infotainment system among others.
Dodge and Chevy trucks have also upgraded their trucks’ interiors by incorporating some of latest technology. Chevy’s interiors, however, don’t match up to that of the other two trucks.
The best way of checking riding quality is during towing and off-road travelling. Both Ford and Dodge deliver incredible performance whether off or on the road.
In addition, both truck perform great with or without a trailer at their backs. Both have wonderful suspension damping, though that of Dodge Ram is slightly better.
Chevy, unfortunately, offers one rough ride thanks to its 22-inch wheels as well as other suspension and structural problems.
Ford became the lightweight pickup truck leader upon introduction of its aluminum truck back in 2015. The truck weighed more than 700 pounds less than past releases.
Chevy also released its lightweight truck featuring several aluminum parts. The truck was 450 pounds less than previous releases given that not everything was replaced with aluminum. Only the hood, tailgate, and doors were replaced.
Dodge’s lightweight release only lost 225 pounds as it had just a few aluminum parts; only the tailgate and hood were replaced.
Engine and beyond
Both Chevy and Dodge feature high-end V8 engines, with Chevy’s engine having about 420 horsepower and Dodge’s being about 395 horsepower.
Note that both brands also have V 6 engine options. Chevy, however, features a 2.7 liter turbocharged 4-cyliner engine, which is the brand’s most economical engine.
Ford features a 3.5 liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine of about 450 horsepower. The brand also has several other lower-end engines, which include 3.3 liter and 2.7 liter turbocharged V6 engines.
With regard to transmission, everything varies from eight-sped gearboxes in Dodge trucks to six-speed transmission in lower-end engines involving Chevy models. Both Chevy and Ford feature ten-speed options in their high-end trucks.
IIHS rates all the three brands very well with regard to safety. Dodge rated very well in almost all categories, with a huge collection of optional features. Ford was beneath Dodge Ram 1500, with poor ratings in the headlight test.
Chevy performed the least, with poor ratings in the headlight test as well as child seat anchorage and passenger-side crashing evaluation. Nonetheless, the other test ranked well putting the truck in the same standard as Ford and Dodge.
Comfort is key in any vehicle. In spite Dodge’s massive size, the truck is quite versatile and mobile. The truck is very comfortable to drive thanks to its ease in movement together with improved capabilities in challenging terrains.
Simply put, dodge trucks are very comfortable and ideal for off-road driving. Its huge size, however, makes it difficult to maneuver narrow spaces. Nonetheless, its overall drive is relatively comfortable because of its use of coil-spring suspension.
Ford offers unmatched comfort. It is packed with comfort technology, from information centers that make driving a lot easier to massaging seats. In addition, Ford trucks feature huge storage spaces, which makes long-term journeys more comfortable.
Chevy is a brand that is defined by providing luxurious comfort levels to everyone riding in their truck. Different from the other two pickup truck brands, Chevy enhances comfort using utter customization instead of outright comfort.
What makes this brand stand out is that it is all in the driver’s hands to make the ride comfortable with wireless phone charging abilities, ventilated seating, and head-up display being optional comfort features.
Which is the best pickup truck?
There is no definite answer.
Each of the three pickup trucks has its own strengths and weaknesses. Each of the trucks has something unique to offer.
Ford’s great desire for innovation is perfect for that driver that wants a really unique drive that’s differs from its competitors in almost all ways.
On the other hand, Dodge Ram grew because of its great performance and reliability, which makes it an ideal choice for those in need of a truck for their occupation.
It is also ideal for those who often find themselves driving on off-road rugged terrain.
Chevy is more of a luxury pickup truck that’s suitable for that driver looking to enjoy a smooth ride in comfort.
The best pickup truck among the other ultimately comes down to personal preference.
